The Clustering Fishtail Palm (Caryota mitis) is a fascinating species with lush, uniquely shaped leaves reminiscent of a fishtail. This tropical delight features a multi-stemmed growth habit and adds an exotic flair to any landscape. With its ability to grow in containers or directly in the ground, it's the perfect addition for those seeking to bring a touch of the tropics into their spaces.

How to Grow Clustering Fishtail Palm

Caryota mitis thrives in USDA hardiness zones 10-11 and enjoys a balance of sun and shade. It appreciates a rich, well-draining soil medium and has a moderate to fast growth rate. With time, it can reach up to 20-25 feet tall, providing a visually pleasing vertical element in your garden or indoor space.

Care Tips

Maintain a consistent watering routine, keeping the soil evenly moist but not soggy. Feed with a high-quality, slow-release palm fertilizer during the growing season to ensure optimal growth and health. The Fishtail Palm is not tolerant of frost, so in cooler climates, consider planting in a container that can be moved indoors.

Uses

With its intriguing leaf shape and lush growth, the Clustering Fishtail Palm is an eye-catching accent plant for both indoor and outdoor designs. It can be used to create a tropical backdrop in garden beds or as a standout specimen in large containers. In larger landscapes, it serves as an excellent screening plant.

Planting Tips

When planting, choose a location that accommodates its mature size and offers partial shade. Dig a hole as deep and twice as wide as the root ball. Place the palm in the hole, backfill with soil and water thoroughly. For indoor planting, choose a container with adequate drainage to prevent waterlogging.

Maintenance

The Fishtail Palm is low-maintenance once established. Water and fertilize regularly during the growing season, and prune dead or yellowing fronds as necessary to maintain its tidy appearance. If indoors, ensure the palm receives bright, indirect light to avoid leaf burn.

Pests and Diseases

Fishtail Palms are relatively resistant to pests but can occasionally be bothered by spider mites or mealybugs. These can be treated with insecticidal soap or neem oil. Root rot can occur in poorly drained soils, so ensure the palm is planted in a well-draining medium. Implement good watering practices to prevent these issues.

No Shirt Pocket!
Fit Type: Regular Fit, Color: Blue Stripe, Size: X-Large
No Pocket! The material was nice quality, a little thicker than I would have anticipate for a low priced shirt, and very soft. The only disappointment was there was not shirt pocket. I suppose I did not look closely enough at the photos to notice that before I purchased. Otherwise, this is a very comfortable shirt.

Fair quality all cotton Oxford with wide choice of colors
Size: Small, Color: Sky Blue
This is real oxford cloth with the warp dyed and weft left white. It's actually 100% cotton. I've ordered several other "100% Oxford" shirts on Amazon that were not. Amazon's own Essentials brand OCBD is better than this Cotton King brand and only half the price, but it is not offered in even a fourth of the colors. I like all the pastels. Amazon's "Stretch" version is not Oxford cloth or cotton at all. These Cotton King shirts are a bit lighter weight than the non-stretch cotton Amazon Oxford shirts which are about the same weight as the original Brook's Brothers or Lands' End "Sail Rigger Oxford" which is their current heavyweight oxford as well as their "Hyde Park" Oxford from the past. The Brooks Brother's USA-made Oxfords may be worth it, but I don't have a use for them. Their imported "Friday" Oxfords are just overpriced. Lands' End has been changing their sources and the fit is inconsistent often with sleeves that are too short and very few color choices. The all-cotton Amazon Oxfords are at least as good as the Lands' End and Brooks Brothers Friday shirts, sell for as little as Lands' End's lowest sale prices, and fit better, but the color choices are few. I've only bought these Cotton King in a few colors the others aren't offering. They're more expensive, but still half the price of the Friday shirts and worth just as much.
